There are so many things to love about original vintage posters – the sharp clean lines, the vibrant colour and the obvious decorative appeal.

The first prints were created in France around 1880 and by 1891 Toulouse-Lautrec had created his infamous Moulin Rouge prints and started a poster craze.
Posters soon became reflective of the culture at the time. We can see the Art Nouveau style popular in Italy during the late 1800’s, then the shift to propaganda posters during the first World War. Here are some things to look out for when shopping for authentic vintage posters online:
Paper: folds/creases and stains are common to authentic vintage prints and add to the patina. If the paper is glossy or shiny it is often a sign to be careful of authenticity.
Print quality: original posters apply solid layers of colour to the paper; consequently blurry or pixelated images and/or text are usually a sign of a reproduction.
Reputation: look for a reputable online site that values authenticity and will be able to source the origins of the poster.
