In 2000, Pantone started announcing a ‘Colour of the Year’, to reflect the times and inspire future designs. Over the years this announcement has informed designers across the world - and 2021 will be no exception.
It seems only fitting that in 2021 there are two colours: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.
The 2021 Pantone colour of the year combination aims to reflect both strength and positivity.
17-5104 Ultimate Gray invokes nature and strength, a shade that is very versatile and solid.
Throw in the positive and sunny 13-0647 Illuminating and you have a combination that seems totally appropriate for the challenges we will face around the world in 2021.
Both these colours can be used to create a foundation in your own design, each working well with other colours and tones. Or you can pair the two to create a modern theme within your home.
Check out some of these pieces currently listed with Collecte that are ahead of the game when it comes to colour: Didier Bombala Outdoor Lounge chairs, Jardan Lewis 2.5 seater sofa, Maxalto Febo Chaise, Vitra Pivot High Stools and the Colorscope Grey Striped Rug.
A bit of background…
Designers of all sorts will be familiar with the Pantone Color Matching System, which was set up in the early sixties to standardize colour so that makers across the world could match their tones exactly.
Over the years the system has expanded to become a major descriptor; not only a bible for designers, the allocated numbers have been used for paints, make up and have even become legislation in some countries! The system is now used by over 10 million designers and manufacturers across the world.
This is only the second time that Pantone have selected two colours of the year (the other was in 2016).
