Describe your style in 6 words or less.
Liane: Simple. Restrained. Timeless. Minimalist sometimes maximalist.
Which architects/designers/artists most inspire you?
Liane: So many artists, architects and designers and I’m constantly discovering more.
Architects from Brazil, Japan, USA, Australia, New Zealand and across the globe. I particularly love simplicity and elegance, space and light and natural and true materials that work in harmony with nature.
Some designers I admire include Jasper Morrison, Sori Yanagi particularly for his cutlery and kitchenware which brings everyday joy and beauty, Hasami ceramics, Erik Magnussen for Stelton cutlery, Tapio Wirkkala, Ray and Charles Eames for the way they lived their lives as well as their creative practice which was so integrated.
I’m enjoying seeing the overdue recognition of more female artists, particularly ones in the later stages of their life like Yayoi Kusama, Hilma af Klint, and Carmen Herrera who have spent a lifetime quietly working on revolutionary work.

What is your most cherished piece at home? (furniture, art, lighting or decorative)
Liane: There’s much to cherish, from the garden, to small sentimental things and objects like art and furniture. I cherish everything beautiful and the stories behind them.
Best piece of career advice you have ever received?
Liane: My mother once said ’seek and you will find’ to me when we were looking for something, and that stayed with me as excellent life advice.
What are you favourites:
Favourite Instagram account/s you follow?
Liane: I follow a mixture of friends, architecture, art, landscape, and public space amongst other accounts. I always love Honey_fingers in particular, the way he integrates bees, art, architecture, poetry, beauty, creative practice, community and all the good things. Beci Orpin and Georgia Perry are always full of delight too.
Favourite galleries or museums?
Liane: I love contemporary art galleries in particular. Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark is a lifetime highlight. 2121 Design Sight in Tokyo another beauty. We are lucky to have some wonderful ones in Australia including GoMA, MCA, MoNA, and NGV. The new Chau Chak Wing Museum in Sydney has a remarkable collection. I don’t think I’ve ever been into a museum or gallery I didn’t like. They all have something interesting to offer.
Favourite way to unwind at home?
Liane: I love gardening and cooking. Gardening is the gift that keeps on giving. Li Ziqi is a favourite for late night TV watching. She has a dream life growing and making everything. Primitive Technology is also great watching, and XiaoXi’s Culinary Idyll is also great for unwinding.
Favourite restaurant?
Liane: Bodhi is always great. We cook a lot at home, and my daughters love creating and experimenting with vegan recipes.
