French Oak Double Pedestal Dining Table with Parquetry Inlays

Grand yet rustic, this handcrafted French oak dining table is a true statement piece. Made by Willmott Tables in 2013, where it retailed for $15,000, it’s from the Chateau range and the design is named “The Dukes of Burgundy”. The Chateau range is modelled on the early trestle tables of 17th and 18th century Europe. The parquetry and mouldings were an extra labour that suited the dukes and elite of the time in their chateaus. Willmott drew the inlay panel patterns from the floor designs found in European chateaus, and many hours of handwork went into giving the table an authentic character. The tabletop is the main feature with intricate parquetry panels in maple and walnut set into solid French oak, which brings out the natural grain. French oak is prized for its fine, tight grain, durability and warm tones. The base is carved and turned from solid French oak and is sturdy and substantial. At 2.6 metres long, it’s made for large gatherings, long lunches and family occasions. It would suit a traditional, French provincial or country-style dining room, and it also gives a modern space a warm, characterful centrepiece. The table is in as-new condition. It’s solid and structurally sound, with no marks or scratches, and has only been used on rare occasions.
