Illum Wikkelso Capella Chair in Rosewood and Leather

Arm chair model 4 from the Capella Series designed in 1958 by Danish designer Illum Wikkelsø executed in beautiful Rosewood with black leather loose cushions. Made by Danish manufacturer Niels Eilersen. Note that fabric or open sided versions of the Capella chair are more common than those in leather with the side fills. The wood is in Very Good to excellent condition and the leather is in Good condition with no cracks, or tears, but it does show some areas of light abrasion. The chair feels sturdy, and steady. The seat support is firm and the frame is solid. The chair has not been restored but is just a wonderful vintage example. Wikkelsø's background in cabinetry instilled in him a profound sense of materials and excellent attention to detail. He worked extensively with teak and rosewood and captured delicate and sculptural forms in his designs. Wikkelsø believed that furniture should be built to last, combined with comfort and pleasing to the eye. All this is reflected in the Capella chair, the robust frame with the more graceful armrests (note the beautiful detailing at front) make it a timeless and elegant chair that provides exquisite seating comfort.
