During the 19th century Europe and England witnessed a massive growth in the Millinery industry.
The 19th century saw massive changes in fashion styles and as each season passed all sorts of styles, shapes and colours became popular with milliners.
Behind the scenes there is a hidden story of the hardworking women who fuelled the industry. Crafting exquisite hats for the ladies and dapper hats for the gentlemen.
The Chip and Felt hat box shows an early form of marketing being decorated with a catalogue of their headwear from the era.
Made from a very thick cardboard with a leather laid lid on cardboard.
In excellent original condition showing only slight signs of wear.
Circa 1880.
